Oregon Laws
Oregon Medical Marijuana Program (OMMP) was established by voter initiative in 1998 through Ballot Measure 67 and is regulated by the Oregon Health Authority (OHA). The state made history in 1973 as the first to decriminalize cannabis possession. Patients with qualifying medical conditions can receive certification from licensed healthcare providers and access medical marijuana through state-licensed dispensaries.
- Patients must be Oregon residents.
- Only licensed Oregon healthcare providers including physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and naturopathic physicians may recommend medical marijuana.
- Cannabis products are available through Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission (OLCC) licensed dispensaries.
- Home cultivation of cannabis is permitted for registered patients, caregivers, as well as recreational users.
- Driving under the influence of cannabis remains illegal and subject to penalties.
- Public consumption is prohibited under Oregon law.
